Good questions

Before you reach out

The things most families wonder before they message a farm. Still stuck? The free guide goes deeper.

Is raw milk legal where I live?

In the US it varies by state — on-farm sales, herdshares, retail, or not at all. The exact state-by-state maps are available when you become a beneficiary, because we don’t show sensitive info about all states to the public. The free guide has some details, and you can become a beneficiary within a minute and get access to the other sensitive details the internet hides.

What’s a herdshare?

You buy a small share of the herd, so you own part of the animal and receive milk from your own cow or goat. It’s how many families access raw milk where retail sales aren’t allowed — the farm handles the paperwork.

How do I contact a farm, and why is some info hidden?

Click a listing and send a note through us, or visit their website. Each farmer decides how much shows publicly because of the state-by-state laws; some listings are fully visible when you become a beneficiary.

What do the delivery types mean?

On-farm pickup = buy at the farm. Pickup / drop point = a co-op or drop location near you. Home delivery = the farm delivers to your area. Shipping = shipped to your home by a carrier.

How are the distances figured?

When you enter a ZIP, we estimate the miles to each pickup and on-farm listing from the center of your ZIP area — close enough to sort nearest-first, not turn-by-turn exact.

Are these farms inspected or endorsed?

No. Listings are shared by the farms themselves. The Raw Milk Movement doesn’t inspect, certify, or endorse them yet — but we let customers leave private reviews of every farm, so if anyone experiences something bad, or a farm isn’t what they said it is, we take those reviews very seriously and will remove farms if needed. For the most part farmers are busy, but they enjoy answering questions and connecting with their customers.

I’m a farmer — how do I get listed?

Use List or Refer a Farm. It takes about four minutes, you choose your privacy level, and we review each one by hand before it shows.

Beyond the fifty states

International listings are available to beneficiaries.

Farms outside the US face a different set of risks, so we show the counts publicly and keep the details behind the door. Becoming a Beneficiary gives you access to those listings, and other truths we don’t share with the public.
